What is your average uptime?

What is your support response time and what does it cover?

We are not a reseller of national hosting services. We own our own equipment and operate our own data facility in downtown Portland, and were recently recognized by PGE's Clean Wind program for our continued commitment to offset 100% of our electrical use with renewable wind generated in eastern Oregon. We stand by our commitment to reduce our waste, use smaller, more efficient web servers that draw less power, generate less heat, and are built using fewer raw materials.
We are a no-oversell host, meaning we do not offer "unlimited" anything -- because there is no such thing as 'unlimited' when it comes to web hosting. We offer many of the same bells and whistles as other providers - but they are just that. Standard features. Where it really counts is that you don't have to worry about someone else using your space, or clogging up your bandwidth. By not overselling, we are able to guarantee that our servers do not being overtaxed. Service outages are rarely due to a problem caused by one of our customers' web sites bringing down a server.
We stand by our 99.9% uptime commitment (less than 43 minutes per month) and in the years we have been hosting, have a proven 99.99% uptime track record. With the proper infrastructure, these results are not rocket science nor are they exorbitantly expensive to achieve. All of our customers' businesses depend on their sites and email to be up, and we would not be satisfied with offering them anything less.
You can in fact call us if you need help. We may ask to open a ticket so we can document your issue, and may ask to troubleshoot the issue through our 24/7 ticketing system, but if you need immediate assistance and don't want to deal with our online system, you can call us. Yes, this does take up a bit of time, but in the end our customers are happier, and we can hear it in their voices.

| We've had repeated downtime problems with Canvas Dreams over two years. Their tech support staff repeatedly maintained in writing to us that the problem was "another site on the shared server" who they promised to boot off. Suddenly yesterday they called to say our own site was the problem and they were going to move us in the next 60 minutes. They claimed this move would not cause our site or email to go down for one instant - which can't be true because when you move servers, there's always a lag for propagation. Their 99.99% uptime claim is also false for their own web site. According to the tracking they reference Webhostingstuff.com, Canvas Dreams has only a 99.98% up record over 2,279 days. A small point change like that can be worth several hours if not more downtime for that period. It also erodes trust. |

| Excellent commitment to sustainable business practices. A client found you, wants to use you as a host for his site, and asked me to read about your commitment to sustainability. I appreciate your values. I also think more people should be allowed to work at home much of the time to save energy and one's sanity (commuting is nuts) . . . good workers are good workers.
