Is autoinstaller actually being updated, or had it been disabled just to make more people switch to paid hosting?

It has been down for as long as I can remember, so I do not think it'll be updated in a while, or even totally removed.

It is much better to just install the script yourself

1) you get to learn how to install scripts
2) you always can install the latest version of a script. The most auto installers i know of offer "slightly" outdated versions of scripts. And it´s generally a good idea to keep your scripts up to date as older versions might have vulnerabilities.
