Default Cloudflare - 04-14-2011, 07:29 PM

Question/suggestion to the Admins:

As cloudflare can help reduce server load and reduce website loading times its a win-win for both you and your customers; but was wondering if it's possible to remove the IP connection limit to cloudflare's IP's?

I saw a post the other day about someone who is using cloudflare but gets the error "Website Currently Unavailable" now and again. This error is caused by cloudflare not being able to generate the website due to an IP block (Which i guess was caused by cloudflare visiting one of the servers IP's more than 2000 times - which would only happen if multiple people are using cloudflare on the same server).

I contacted cloudflare and got this reply:

Quote:
If you have blocked any of the
following IP addresses, you should remove them from the list or
whitelist them. CloudFlare's IP range includes:

Ports used by CloudFlare: 80 and 443 (for SSL).

204.93.240.0/24 (204.93.240.0 - 204.93.240.255)

204.93.177.0/24 (204.93.177.0 - 204.93.177.255)

199.27.128.0/21 (199.27.128.0 - 199.27.135.255)

173.245.48.0/20 (173.245.48.0 - 173.245.63.255)

If you are not running any blocking software on your own server, then
the most likely place the block is happening is with your hosting
provider. Ask them to whitelist our IP addresses below when connecting
to your network. You can tell them that you are operating behind a
reverse proxy and the correct visitor IP will be reported by the
X-Forwarded-For header, which they can use for abuse detection.

By whitelisting the IPs, you'll have fewer issues in the future.
As more and more people start using cloudflare - this issue will just end up getting worse (Causing people to remove cloudflare thus increasing server load).

Sorry for the long read, but just a suggestion

Cheers.

Good Day To All,

I see that you are considering this suggestion. May I ask if this was done as I am thinking of utilizing Couldfare and wish to avoid any issues.

Thank You in advance for your time and reply
