Default web site name dilemma! - 06-15-2012, 08:27 PM

Hi,

Please can you help me

I have just started to create my web site here, called 3dmarkb and its basically part of my CV to display my work. The web site is complete, logo, everything - so i don't want to really change anything now; i have yet to fully upload it.

But i am slightly worried that i may have not chosen a good domain name and was hoping to get your thoughts on this?

When i typed 3dmarkb into Google, just to see if there were other similar web sites, i found there were, but they looked a bit dodgy? A software crack site, Russian sites and i think a site describing a virus as my domain name.

I am slightly worried that my web site will be listed amongst these sites and potentially put people off from picking the link.

I do have another web site here, but it's called balchin3d, which i was planning on removing once the new one was in place. I did wonder whether just to use this domain name for my new web site - but still keep the new logo of 3dmarkb.

But by doing that i figured it might be just as bad as listing it with dodgy looking web sites because the domain name does not match the logo?

What do you think is best to do, just load up as 3dmarkb and don't worry about it, use the domain balchin3d for the 3dmarkb web site, or something else?

Thank you

Without knowing what your sites about or being able to see it it's pretty difficult to give an opinion on it's name

hi, yes sorry....ive only uploaded the images and thumb nails so far, no pages yet

The web site is just to show my work, which is 3d renders, comupter game graphics and Autocad drawings. Basically a site to display examples of my work and intended to be part of my cv.

My old web site is below, the new one will be similar, but much more updated - this will give you a idea of what its about:

Thank you

I wouldn't worry about it myself. The first 4 results in Google are relevant and point to your stuff on Google+. The crack site is an automatically generated search page that will return just about anything, and the rest are all just mostly other variations on the name as Google "tries" to be helpful.

lol... its because 3DMark is a software from FutreMark that tests the benchmarks of your graphics cards and is popular with gamers etc, the "cracking sites" are just showing up because they allow you to download the software.

What 3DMark is:
"3DMark is an essential tool used by millions of gamers, hundreds of hardware review sites and many of the world's leading manufacturers to measure PC gaming performance.

Use it to test your PC's limits and measure the impact of overclocking and tweaking your system. Search our massive results database and see how your PC compares or just admire the graphics and wonder why all PC games don't look this good.

To get more out of your PC, put 3DMark in your PC."

Thank you. Yes, it seems like the best idea to stay with the 3DMark B web site seeing as i have finished it. The things i have on Google where my first attempt at finding a web host, but it seemed limited to what html code you can use, which didnt fit in with my design.

I was aware of the benchmark software (have used it) and this was also in the back of my mind. My web site name is actually my name, Mark (B is my surname), i am into 3D...so 3DMark B was used!

Thanks for the help.
