Default Allow forum members to report threads - 01-13-2009, 09:38 AM

I noticed a considerable increase in spam posts over the last days offering questionable things and a lot of free porn videos. A minute ago i came across two more posts showing some nice boobs and movie trailers. Sexy as they are, i tried to look for the "Report this thread" icon to make the mods aware of that crap but failed to find it. Seems it´s not activated for the registered users group, so i´d like to make the suggestion activate it.

This would allow users to report such threads, and knowing my way around vbulletin, would help mods to remove spam easier as vB can be set up to show reported threads in a separate forum which allows for direct access to the reported posts/topics. So at the end of the day it might benefit both, users and mods

@Bad Karma [CORE] I agree with you. That should reduce spams around the forum.

I have send a PM to admin about this, and he has not yet replied, I hope he sees this thread as I have been suggesting this for a while.

he seriously should consider setting that up as it will make life for the mods much easier. Also might wanna think about using some anti-spam plugin for vBulletin (there are a few out there)

We suggested this along with a few restrictions that would not allow as many spam bots to register, such as http://recaptcha.net/ but he hasnt gotten around to it yet I guess.

I also agree with this suggestion. There are "booby traps" nestled in some of the posts.

I try to regularly review the new posts on my site, but this will become a insurmountable task after a certain level of posting is achieved. And then how do you know that the link hasn't been changed after awhile? I believe that is what happened to the post I complained of here:

How to prevent Google to index my test-site

Now I must say, response to that situation was absolutely amazing, probably because it involved a virus/trojan situation, but wouldn't the report post feature would make resolving the issue a bit more efficient for the moderators, and safeguard against changes made later?

I completely agree with you and it's been brought up several times. I, myself drew his attention to it a couple months ago. Unfortunately no one apart from him has the power to implement such feature so until he gets around to it, you're just going to have to send a PM to myself or another forum administrator
