Default Canīt chmod joomla. - 06-04-2008, 12:17 PM

Hello all. I have a problem with chmoding Joomla. Some folders can be chmoded but most cant. I get this message -

Warning: ftp_site() [function.ftp-site]: Could not change perms on /public_html/media: Operation not permitted in /home/files/public_html/includes/filesystem.inc.php on line 286
An error has occured

Unable to execute site command chmod 0777 /public_html/media. Note that the CHMOD command is only available on Unix FTP servers, not on Windows FTP servers.

Smart Ftp and the two cpanel file managers donīt help. This started when I deleted (cleanup/reload site and uninstalled what was left of joomla) an existing joomla site and tried to install a new one. Can anybody help? Thanks.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well I feel kind of stupid right now. I figured out what to do.
Account Tools - Fix File Ownership and after that everything was chmodable.
That did the trick.

I have same problem with you.. was... :-)
here's the solution:
1. Go to Control Panel in member area, scroll down to bottom, then you'll find "Account Tools"
2. Ok, see the "Fix File Permission" there? click and do just what u must do
3. If the problem still exist, click "Fix File ownership" too and execute
4. try to change the file/folder permission with file manager again
hope this will help

Default chmod settings.... - 06-11-2008, 04:32 AM

.... given that wordpress users have been encountering similar problems with chmod permissions, i tried the fix file ownership utility. it crashed my wordpress installation. i then went back and reset the chmod settings after running the file ownership fix, but it did not solve the chmod problem for the 'wp-content' folders, which are still locked at '755', making the wordpress media uploader unusable (and thus disabling features in wordpress themes, and making it so people can not upload pics etc to their wordpress installs).

please someone at 000, help.

They are ownership problems. You have to reset ownership in your control panel.

As was said earlier, go to your control panel, go to the bottom, and click fix file permissions.
This should fix your problem. If it doesnt, then youll have to use the support desk.

Same here, I tried fixing my CHMOD from 744 back to 644, but it stays on 744.
I already did:
- Fix file ownership
- Fix file permissions
I tried it a lot of times to CHMOD them back but it NOT work....
Maybe this is a bug or something?
Ill contact support ASAP.
