Question ocPortal and 000Webhost? - 08-27-2011, 10:51 AM

Hi, been some time since posting here...

I have questions concerning the CMS 'ocPortal' (anyone heard of it?) I have scoured the forum archives, here, and found no information.

1 - The ocPortal package (compressed) is about 16.8mb. Would that go against the FTP limit here?

2 - If fine, would your free service support it? From what I see so far, there would be little if any drain on server resources.

thank you in advance for any info

Robh

Edit:

Hello,
I spent more than a few hours early this morning to firgure out a good host. According to 000webhost.com, an account can have 1500MB of disk space and 100 GB Traffic. The "catch" is that you can only upload a 5MB file.
"Restrictions:
• The maximum size of one file is 5 MB
• The FTP transfer mode (ASCII or BINARY) will be automatically determined, based on the filename extension
• If the destination file already exists, it will be overwritten"

You will not find this out until after you sign up. Of course there are many offers to upgrade. This is to bad because I have a production site I wanted to move and just needed some time to move it.
Obviously, ocportal does not work.

I had marked my OP, as solved.. thank you all the same for your reply.

However..

At that time of posting, I was fighting long illness, and, was not of clear thinking. These things happen.

I would otherwise split the file into smaller files, which I later did.

As for production sites. I, and others here, have large production 'CMS' sites running very well.

The review, to which you linked, is of no concern to me... I have seen this negative banter too many times, to take notice. There is little wrong with 000Webhost if one treats it, and the regulations with due respect. Sadly, some do not, and hit out blaming the host instead, for "everything under the sun".

Sure, it has limits, every host does.. In defense, further of 000Web, the limitations are far less than other services offered/given for free. For myself, I have not found one, here, of several years my using, that effects what I do.

I should correct myself to say that I was referring to the "free" version as, in my opinion, not a good option for production sites. The upgrade may, and probably does, work just fine. The 5MB limit can be changed by Administration instead of breaking down files, which is a process many people to not know how to do. Perhaps you could provide a tutorial on the sign-up page describing how to break down the Ocportal, MediaWiki and other sites for people to upload them.

The reason I posted here is that I entered ocportal in the forum search to find out what others had to say about it before signing up for a hosting package. Thank you for taking the time to provide a professional reply.
