Default VirtueMart installation failure on 000webhost.com - 05-01-2012, 04:22 PM

Hi Folks,
I have created a website and hosted it for free on 000webhost.com (I am trying to do a test run before paying for web hosting). I have been able to successfully install joomla on c-panel of 000webhost. Further when I try to install virtuemart 1.* , I fail. When I try to install the main VM component it waits for a while before returning to admin homepage.
I believe this might be known issue. My development has been stuck because of this. I would be very helpful if someone can help me here.

Are you attempting the "automatic" or "manual" installation method? The automatic installation will generally fail due to the upload limits. Manual Installation via FTP usually works though.

Default Issue with Virtuemart Installation on 000webhost.com - 05-02-2012, 06:41 AM

Hi,
Thanks for your quick reply. I am trying to install through the backend of Joomla by selecting the normal 'Upload File and Install' option. Do not know what you call this, manual/automatic installation.
Can you also suggest hoe to install virtuemart thru FTP approach.

I have all the screenshots, but since the upload limit is <19kb, I am not able to upload it. If you want I can email you for your reference.

Hope to hear from you quickly.

What's your problem (error message) when trying to upload a file bigger than 19KB?
Remember that the server has a limit of 10,000 files per account.

Are you getting any error messages?

Sounds like your are trying to do the "automatic" install through the browser and it is failing because the file is bigger than the upload limit will allow. You will need to do the manual installation.

Detailed instructions can be found on Virtuemart's website HERE, and instructions for setting up an FTP connection to your site can be found in your cpanel under "view ftp details". Just take your time, read all the instructions, and you will be fine.

Good luck!!
