Wink Tutorial on istalling MediaWiki on 000 !!! - 03-26-2009, 10:48 AM

1 . Download. Media Wiki comes only in .tar.gz archives, so you may need WinRAR or 7zip. http://www.mediawiki.org/
2 . Extract to a folder
3 . Create a new account. Note that you temporarily cannot create new accounts due to unknown reasons
4 . Now to the hard part. Go into the folder where you extracted the files into.
Select all the files, but make sure you didnt select the folders, and add them into a .zip archive.
5 . Now go into every folder and repeat the previous step. IMPORTANT NOTE : The files you selected, and put in the archive must not have a total of weight bigger than 4 mb
6 . Now login to the account and enter the file manager (not Another File Manager)
7 . Now you must create directories. Create :
Bin; Docs; Config; etc...
8 . Upload the archive from the folder on your PC to the directory with the same name.
9 . So after you did the previous hard step, go to the Another File Manager. Select public_html, go to Change Permissions and tick every box.
10 . Setup mySQL
11 . Run the website, and it will explain what to do further.

-----------------------------------------------------------

So if you followed these steps correctly the wiki will work.
Proof that this works : thedorkside.net84.net

Thumbs up for the tutorial but changing permissions on your root to 777 is probably a very bad idea

Um, your site can be modified much easier by a malicious script...

usually you shouldn't have to update file permissions on an install

most of the times you install a script you need to chmod certain folders so the script can write data to them or chmod configuration files so they can be written to during installation. You canīt get around giving 777 to some files or folders but voluntarily changing your root directory to 777 is kinda like committing suicide

Default Problem uploading Languages/messages - 07-21-2012, 12:04 AM

It seems that combining all of these into a single zip file will overload the server. You need to combine them into multiple zips (3 worked for me) and upload them one by one (not all at once). (I realize this thread is quite old but it's the only one I could find)
