Default Email - 06-08-2010, 08:26 AM

Hello, I've set up a hosting with my existing domain, now i want to use the email service with pop/smtp... but do i understand right, that I can only receive emails but not write any? Is there a way to get a free email@mydomain.com with pop/smtp support? I've read something about mx record... but I don't understand it. Please help me, thanks.

You are allowed to send emails, but sending more than 10 at once or 100 an hour (you'll need to search the forum for the exact numbers) will require you to upgrade to a hosting24 package or have your account suspended for bulk email sending.

You can use the 000webhost email service provided in your members section, or you can set up Google Apps. The Google team will provide you with all the information you need to set this up. There's also a useful tutorial on the forum.

Put google apps into the search box. It's the third link.

For the record, Hosting24 has limits on how many you can post in an hour. I can't remember the exact numbers, just don't send 200 in a 10 minute period. XD

I've just asked Hosting24 the limit and surprisingly its the same as 000webhost.

Yup. There are some smaller numbers. Let me pull those up.

Mass mail is strictly prohibited by our Terms Of Service: http://www.hosting24.com/tos.php

You cannot send no more than 30 emails per 5 minutes and 100 emails per hour.

We are sorry for any inconveniences, but this is how the system works. We cannot remove this mass mail limitation as it would result in our mail server IP being blacklisted very fast. The server hosts hundreds of domains, and it is not possible to track everyone in real time so we must run this software to disable mass mailers.

We look forward to being of service.

Thank You,
Auridas

From my conversations with support on Hosting24, this limit is a total of all emails sent from a script AND all emails sent through a forwarder AND all emails sent through webmail on proper email accounts.

Has anybody found a way to monitor the last two (and disable them if needs be) to avoid getting their account suspended, support just keep saying:

I am sorry but you will can [sic] only monitor the outgoing emails with your own scripts. We do not provide any monitoring scripts.
Alternatively, has anybody found a free (or very cheap) way to avoid this limit all together?

Upgrade to a hosting24 account and route your email through another provider, such as GMail. Tutorial can be found at http://deepakssn.blogspot.com/2006/0...-php-with.html

Note that you must upgrade to do this as it requires you to open a port connection that is unavailable on the 000webhost service.

Thanks for that, that looks like it could solve the problems, especially as you don't have to use the Gmail account address as a from/reply-to!
