Question 552 - Quota Exceeded Error - 03-27-2011, 06:53 PM

Site: http://imaginenation.webuda.com
Domain: http://www.in-uo.com

I'm getting an error saying that my Quota is exceeded, though according to my control panel, it's not exceeded.

Here's a snipped of log file from Filezilla:
Quote:
12:43:31 Status: Creating directory '/public_html/joomla'...
12:43:31 Command: CWD /public_html
12:43:32 Response: 250 OK. Current directory is /public_html
12:43:32 Command: MKD joomla
12:43:32 Response: 552-Quota exceeded: [joomla] won't be saved
12:43:32 Response: 552-286 files used (2%) - authorized: 10000 files
12:43:32 Response: 552 1583545 Kbytes used (103%) - authorized: 1536000 Kb
12:43:32 Command: MKD /public_html/joomla
12:43:32 Response: 552-Quota exceeded: [/public_html/joomla] won't be saved
12:43:32 Response: 552-286 files used (2%) - authorized: 10000 files
12:43:32 Response: 552 1583545 Kbytes used (103%) - authorized: 1536000 Kb
And here's what CPanel is showing for my disk usage:
Quote:
Disk Usage 331.8 / 1500.0 MB
From looking at the two, it seems like the disk usage counter got stuck somehow and isn't registering that I'm deleting files, so my "used" amount kept increasing without my noticing.

I know I haven't exceeded my bandwidth usage because A) my site's still working, and B) I haven't gotten the 80% usage email.

So, my question is what do I do to fix this?

-edit-
Also, I tend to drag/drop files and overwrite existing files a lot. The files that I do this with are usually somewhat large (5MB+) and need to be updated every few days. Could that be causing problems since the file isn't deleted first, but overwritten?

I think there is a ftp quota set to 10000 files.
To clear this you need to change your ip address.

It also says you are 3% over the limit of space allowed

Yes the limit is 10,000 files. If you use a cms its not that hard to reach that many files. Also, I believe that a folder counts as a file as well.

According to the log file from FileZilla, I'm using much less than my 10K files (286/10000)
12:43:32 Response: 552-286 files used (2%) - authorized: 10000 files

If you mean I can only upload 10K files from one IP address, I'm currently posting from a coffee shop, which is on a different IP address so that shouldn't be the problem.

Also, the 3% over the space allowed is showing falsely. The files are much smaller than that.

I *THINK* what is happening is that when I overwrite a file that already exists, it adds that much to my used amount without removing the amount the original file took up, effectively doubling how much space it's taking up.

So, I upload a 20MB file and i'm using 20MB, then I overwrite that file, and it's using 40MB, then I overwrite it again and it's using 60MB, etc.

So eventually, I have a 20MB file that's taking up much more quota than its actual size.

I deleted the files in question and it only removed their total size, so I'm still way over what I'm actually using.

The disk usage and file quota are two completely different things. Wait 24 hours and post back the FTP logs again.

I'm pretty sure that I understand the limitations and that I'm within them. Here's what I understand:

File Quota: Maximum number of files you're allowed to have on the server. 10000 max. (I have 200 or so)

DiskUsage: Amount of space all your files are taking up. 1.5 GB is allowed. (Cpanel shows "Disk Usage 331.8 / 1500.0 MB")

I'm under on both, but it wasn't letting me upload.

I deleted some large files, and it opened up just enough space for me to upload Joomla stuff, but it's still showing that I'm using much more disk space than I'm actually using.

The cpanel disk usage only updates every 24hrs so you could be over.
