The passed few days, my web site has been extremely laggy, and sometimes simply will not load at all, and at the same time cannot connect via FTP. is this only me?

I just have a basic html website, with a phpbb forum, simple as can be, its been working fine for about a year, I'm just saying it must be something on the host side.
