Hi,

If you are using dreamweaver FTP program would highly recommend you to get a guide or tutorial on the operation of this program.

You could also ask on a forum dedicated to dreamweaver that is where the better you can guide the operation of dreamweaver and tools.

Filezilla, ok, is a good FTP program.

Html files contain text. If you want to see content html file as a website, you must open them using a program that can interpret the HTML (web browser).

Sorry, I do not understand what is "background and whatnot." My English is not very good.

Have you uploaded all of the files, in the proper folder structure, to your Public_Html folder?
In your CSS are your paths to images correct?
Can you provide a link to the site in question please?

*Edit: Have you included your CSS in the head of your HTML file? Or have you written it all in-line?

I am using Dreamweaver.
I sometimes having problems having the server accept my FTP connection so if you are getting trouble connecting you could try enabling passive FTP under the settings for your "site" under Dreamweaver site settings.

as for uploading them You can select the file under the built in file browser or you can sync everything but click the sync button (a circle with arrows going around)

Or you can click site> Synchronize sitewide to initiate the sync.

either way make sure you upload your html documents where you are allowed to (Public_HTML folder) you can have it go to the right folder by setting that folder as the site root under the site settings as well.
