Cool Problems with elgg - 04-30-2012, 06:33 PM

Hi,

I am trying to install this: http://elgg.org/index.php

on this: http://bikerworldtv.com

And on stage2 i get this:
Quote:
We think your server is running the Apache web server.

The rewrite test failed and the most likely cause is that AllowOverride is not set to All for Elgg's directory. This prevents Apache from processing the .htaccess file which contains the rewrite rules.

A less likely cause is Apache is configured with an alias for your Elgg directory and you need to set the RewriteBase in your .htaccess. There are further instructions in the .htaccess file in your Elgg directory.
And this:
Quote:
The open_basedir PHP directive may prevent Elgg from saving files to its data directory.
If you goto:
http://bikerworldtv.com/install.php click on next you will see errors.

Any ideas please.
Thank you

I've seen elgg work here, but it's always a pain in the neck to get configured and running properly. Do a search here for "elgg" and you'll see lots of old topics. Some resolved, but most not. Might find something useful. I messed around with it for about 5 minutes once and decided it just wasn't worth the hassle.

Time and patience my friend. That's all it takes.

Might contact Bad Karma[CORE] at http://www.free-installations.info/

I think they still do free installs, and know a few tricks to get things working for you.

Somebody around here used to have a full list of compatible 000webhost CMS scripts with detailed info, but I can't seem to find it anymore.

I use Wordpress for most things here and never have any issues.

Good luck!!

ELGG, especially newer versions are a pain in the **** to install on some hosts, therefore we removed it from the range of scripts covered by our free installation service.
