Angry Outlook Express email error - 08-08-2012, 02:08 PM

I followed directions for setting up Outlook express email account to receive emails from 000webhost.com.
I get this error:

Quote:
The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'me@myDomainName.com', Server: 'mx.000webhost.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 995, Secure(SSL): Yes, Socket Error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E
Whats wrong and how do I fix it?

It looks to me that your email address is incorrect 'me@myDomainName.com'

That is a 'dummy' email name for this post because no one in their right mind would actually post their email on a public forum. Pretend it says "sally@bakedgoods.com."

I have an email account for my domain name set up from my CPanel.
I followed the directions for receiving email in Outlook Express because I do not want to use webmail.

I got the above error.

I think Outlook Express does not understand the "mx" prefix. Is is supposed to be "pop.000webhost.com" of pop3.000webhst.com?"

Does anyone here have Outlook Express working with their own domain name email account?

For free accounts the port you have specified (995) is closed, so it'll never work. The only port you can use for email is 80.

Thank you for your reply. That information should have been on the email instruction page.

I changed the incoming email port from 995 to "80". I also unchecked the "This server requires a secure connection" box which changed it to "110."

Thinking this was an error I changed it back to "80." The email hangs.
Changed it to "110" and it works.

Incoming mail has to be on port 110, port 80 will not work because that's the port the webserver runs on (http).
