Default Remote mounting of FTP share - 08-15-2012, 04:05 PM

I'm not sure if this is the right spot. Anyways, I've been trying to remote mount my FTP share through Nautilus's (file manager for linux) Connect to Server feature. I've had some success, it works for a couple minutes then I get kicked off and then I have to reconnect (most of the time it has trouble reconnecting) so two things I was wondering is if remote mounting the share is okay to do and also if there was a better way to go about mounting the share? I tried SFTP mounting which is usually faster but then I realized that you don't get ssh access with a free account so that didn't work.

I like remote mounting the share because then it lets me work on the files directly without having to go back and forth with an ftp client.

Hello,

To optimize resources, FTP connections are limited to 2 minutes on the servers of free accounts.

On the other hand I do not understand what you're trying to do.

Ah okay, I didn't realize there was a timeout set up.

Mounting my remote ftp share in my file manager. This would let me open up the html files or php files or whatever in a text editor on my desktop, make changes to the file, and save it, and the saved changes would be saved to the files on your server. It'd be like accessing the file as if it was on my system but through ftp. It's very convenient.

all servers has measure to protect it from attack with persistent connection so if your ftp client expecting a persistent connection it will fail.

Upgrade to paid hosting then you won't have timeout limitation.
