Default Why are some jpeg images now missing? - 09-14-2012, 03:20 PM

I have had my first attempt at a website with 000webhost for some months working perfectly but in about the last week I had a look/check and have found some small jpeg images are now missing.

I have used Safari 'Web Inspector' and where the four images should be only a small blue box with a question mark inside are shown - according to my limited knowledge I'm assuming that means 'not found'!

Anyone know why these would now decide not to appear? It's not as if I have altered anything, touched anything in my account or re-uploaded anything.

The only thing changed is that I received an email reminder to "protect" my account to avoid it being removed due to underuse.

Advice anyone?

What is your URL? I can check the images and give you a better answer.

Thanks for replying kencat however the images are missing so there's nothing to see and I checked with Safari Develop and as I said, they are not visible; represented by the blue box queries?
I can provide my URL but can't see how you can check what isn't there.

Please get back to me if you have any reasons why there is this glitch untouched by human hands mate!

Ta.

Check the file path to the images, are they there?

This is why I asked about your URL, Right click on the missing image, go to copy image location, then you can check the image folder and see if that image is there and not named something other than what is "linked" to. It could be a case of the image is a .jpg and the link is looking for a .gif, or the image is not in the correct folder.

Ok - I checked that everything works in Dreamweaver (it does now as it did at the start). All links are to the Images folder as they were when I originally uploaded.
I have used Apple Safari Develop and checked the (Contacts) page where the four images are missing - file path shows that all images are in the required Images folder for example : path> /images/linkedin_contact.jpg
or
path> /email_contact.jpg
They have always been where they were when I first uploaded; They are just not visible now?
And why just four out of 9 on the page; each missing jpeg sits in the same line of code as another that IS visible?

Server is case sensitive, image.jpg is different to image.Jpg and won't display if not matched, have you checked that?

It could be that the images the site is looking for are located on your computer, I often had that problem with dreamweaver, when you add images, instead of them being linked relative to the server path, it looks for them on your computer. That would explain why it used to work, you moved the images on your computer, now they don't.

It would be a good idea you posted your url, so that some of the more experienced web developers here can look into the code to check the path of the images for you.

You could also double check the file permissions of the images in your file explorer, and as stated before, ensure that actually exist on your server

Hi ShocK,

I have never altered the file tags and they have always been .jpg
As I said I uploaded all, have never altered anything uploaded or added or deleted.
The website worked 100% and after confirming that I wanted the site retained on server - that's when some images (little icons) went invisible on me?

[7 minutes later]

Hi mopedmaniac,

Everything was uploaded in one go so the file links were complete; nothing has been added, removed or amended afterwards.
The website originally displayed all images - Recently I was asked to "confirm" I wanted my site retained, not deleted, and that's when just 4 small images went invisible on me?
There are other images on the same line of code and next to the invisible ones that still are visible - just is weird that some disappear!

here's my website page for you to check through with the gap on the left of text where 4 icons should be....
