Thumbs down FTP Quota - 09-13-2008, 04:07 PM

Ok, here's the thing...
I created my 000webhost account about 2 months ago and everything was just peachy... after a while I decided to make another site...just like the first, but for a different group of people (one site is for students of geography, other site is for students of sociology). Here's my problem... the site that I created 2 months ago, has more than 2000 files, so I can't simply copy the files from one site to the other... I personally think that the limit of 2000 files for one account is too small, if a person considers to have for example a portal (like php-fusion), a forum (phpbb) and a few custom pages. Only phpbb v3.0.2 has 912 files inside of it, let alone all the plug-ins and styles (average style for phpBB: 229 files! ). Yes, you are free, and I respect that... but noone will consider upgrading an account, if you don't even let him to explore his possibilities on one of your free accounts. I think that you only hurt yourself.
I was thinking of upgrading my account... but now... I am not sure. Will there be these FTP Quotas on all servers after a while? And what happens to our accounts, that have more than 2000 files, if you decide to put FTP Quota to, for example, server9? Will they be "cancelled for abuse", even though we didn't do anything wrong?

On the end of the line...I guess my grandma was right, when she said, that nothing on this world is really free...and if it is, it doesn't stay that way for a long time.

This quota is problematic, I have no file in host and it says is over 70%+

I've got this problem too.

I moving my site to new domain (I can't change domain via CP. It's onlyhave creat new account with new domain.) and my site has about 2360 files. It's just only Wordpress and MyBB 1.4 and don't have anything more than originalscript and only 1 theme.

And phpMyAdmin always error when export entire database at once.

Can someone increase more Files Quata for us ?

If the main concern is to limit the workload on the FTP server, couldn't the number of files that we can transfer per FTP session be limited, ie. to 100 or so, but with the possibility of uploading 'zipped' files and then extract them via the web interface?

I haven't seen any "Unzip" option in the online FileManager. That would help a lot - you upload your website through FTP with one big 'zip file', then just 'unzip' it via the web interface. It doesn't clog the FTP server, and it reduces the amount of disk operations required.

The FTP server receives one big file (ie. still under 5 MB), the webmaster can then extract all the content at once (unzipping files is much faster than uploading them one by one through FTP), and everybody is happy.

4000 is still better than 2000, but for someone using Joomla or another portal, when you add the fact that people can upload pictures & additional content, it is still somehow really limited. I have a very simple website to manage my Fantasy Hockey League, and just with pictures and the results of each "simulated" game, at the end of the season, the 4000 limit will be busted.

That's the real problem... there is joomla available to install.. but there is no way to upload it.

To admins: what about quiting the limit (or at least increasing it much more) if we place a link to 000webhost on out site. I already have one pointing to you host. Comeon man... I think you will get much more users with that than putting a limit to existing users. We loved this host, but it became worse after the limit was put.

I just got idea that we could have a special function in CPanel such as "Restore Website". So you can upload a .zip file which contains all files of your website and our CPanel will send it to your server and extract everything directly to the public_html folder. You will not need to install anything or upload, you simply can download all files from your current webhost to your computer, .zip them and upload to CPanel and our software will do the rest.

What do you think ?
