Default Offering free script installation services - 01-18-2009, 03:01 PM

With the idea that everyone should have a web presence no matter how old they are, where they live, and what they do, we are offering our PHP/MySQL script installation service. These are the scripts we can install for you:
  • Blogs like WordPress, Movable Type
  • Bulletin Boards like phpBB2, IPB, vBulletin, SMF, punBB
  • CMS like Joomla, Drupal, Zikula
  • Gallery scripts like Menalto's Gallery, Coppermine
  • Social bookmarking/rating system or Digg clone like Pligg
  • Newsletter scripts like phplist
  • Directory scripts like PHP Link Directory
  • Any other PHP/MySQL script as long as it has installation instructions.

If you would like to have any of the above installed on your web site, please sign up at http://www.free-installations.info and create a new thread in the Request a free script installation forum, letting us know which script you would like to have set up on your website.

Some obvious questions should've popped up in your mind by now. I will try to answer them, if you have any questions not covered please do not hesitate to contact me.

How can I trust you with my FTP and Database info?
You may want to create temporary accounts for us and delete them once we are done with the installation.

How soon will you start attending my request? How much time will you take to complete it?
We'll take it up depending on our free time and other pending requests. Usually each installation will take up about half an hour. We'll keep you updated in your thread.

What all info do you need to do the installation (or) What data should I provide you?
This depends on the script. But usually it's the following:
  • The name of the script and its homepage
  • FTP server IP, username and password.
  • (If the script uses a database) MySQL host name, database name, username and password.
  • Where you want us to install the script. Ex.: If you want us to set up a forum on your site, tell us whether we should install it at yourdomain.com/forum or yourdomain.com/forums or yourdomain.com/board or somewhere else.
What do you charge for a script installation and how do i pay you?
We charge absolutely nothing for our service.

If you have any further question please do not hesitate to ask them.

A few days have passed and i did install a couple of scripts for users coming from this forum. Now, it would be much appreciated if those who got scripts installed could write up a short review of the service they were offered, i.e. if they were happy with it or not, what could have gone better and things like that

Default Hi - 01-26-2009, 03:32 PM

Hey, I've recently started a blog on Wordpress and have decided I'd like to have adsense, but have discovered this isn't possible without hosting it myself.

I'm totally green on the whole subject, and I'd love it if you could help me out and set up Wordpress on my webhost account.

I have read what info you will need, but not sure how to get some of it. I really hope you have the patience to help me lol.

Feel free to contact me by email or let me know what I have to do

Thanks in advance,

JayD

Pretty much all you´d have to do is open a ticket at http://blog.outlaw-forum.info/board/ telling me what you´d like to have installed where. You will need to provide some info as outlined in the initial post of this thread. Most of them can be found in cPanel (i.e. mysql details). Just create the ticket with the information you are able to provide, and i´ll have a look at what´s missing and will tell you how and where to get it.

Thumbs up Perfect - 01-28-2009, 01:30 PM

Setting up a Wordpress blog on independent hosting can be a daunting task for someone (like me) who didn't know the first thing about it. Looking at the instructions made my head hurt and while in about a years time I could have probably bumbled and botched my way to a half decent end result, Karma did it for me in little less than an hour, and has offered support ever since.

He has the patience of a saint, he had to have with me lol. I must have asked him about 100 questions and he answered them all in a way I could understand them and although theres no doubt I'll hit some more snags, I feel more confident that I know what I'm doing now he's explained to me the basics.

I'd reccomend him to anyone who needs some help setting up!

I may want to install PHPlist, but on another thread on this forum, when I searched for PHPlist, it says they don't allow mass mail to be sent from 000webhost.com.

3094-can-i-use-allready-installed-phplist-my-site.html

I was searching to find out if I could install it/ have it installed and if what throttle rate would be required, if I were to send a mailing to about 6000 opt-in addresses from theirs servers. If you were to help me with the install, where would you do it? I'm having trouble with the list, now, on bluehost.com. The MySQL database keeps going missing.

Installation shouldn´t be much of a problem, just sign up and create a support ticket @ http://blog.outlaw-forum.info/board

Leave as much information as possible (mysql server details (servername, database and username, password for database)) aswell as FTP details so i can upload a fresh copy of the script. Any questions about the installation will be dealt with in the ticket as i guess i will have to move the existing database from bluehost aswell ?

About the massmailing thing:
Rules are pretty tight here, and i am not quite sure about how many mails per minute or so are allowed so it would probably be best to either ask 000webhost.com support or dig a little deeper in the forum to see if there were any numbers mentioned from staff. I vaguely remeber it was like 10 per minute or so

Thanks. I'm not ready to move the list to 000webhost.com, but I'll try to find out about their rules for throttling.
