Exclamation "Missing operating system" error on Acer Aspire 5315 - 06-20-2011, 10:15 PM

I just recently formatted my Acer Aspire 5315 because Windows 7 wouldn't really do anything, it wouldn't even let me re-install Windows 7!

So, I formatted it (foolishly I only let it get to 6% befor formatting the System Reserved partition), then tried (at least) installing Windows 7 back into it (through my new 8GB PNY USB drive as my CD/DVD-ROM Drive is busted). So, I booted it, hit F12, selected my USB HDD and what's the first thing I see pop up? "Missing operating system", even though the install disk is there. And this happened with: Windows 7, MAC OS X 10 Snow Leopard (works with Intel Processors), and Snow OS X Universal (also works on Intel).

So is there any way I can fix this situation without having to go to the repair shop, because I really don't have any money to spend?

Make sure the USB has permission to boot in your BIOS.

USB is the first on the boot sequence and has permission, SATA is set to AHCI mode, F12 boot menu is enabled. Thing is, my BIOS is a bit out of date, I think it's 3.0 or just a bit higher, but not the latest v4.1.

Booting from USB is a bit dodgy on older PCs however it should work fine with your model. The version of BIOS shouldn't affect it really so it must be something else. Have you tried using a different USB?

No, this is the only USB in my possession large enough, though my friend has an external HDD (24GB), I would just need to ask him for it.

EDIT: Fixed the Missing OS error, just had to format my USB to NTFS, but now I get Error loading operating system.
