Default Better than paid hosting? - 07-14-2012, 06:05 AM

Apparently if your site gets suspended for violating the 20%+ CPU usage limit for more than 1000 times. There will be no lifting of the ban, instead support will just chant this mantra..

Whilst I understand the need for a misbehaving site to expect a temporary shut down till alterations have been made to the offending code or wordpress plugin removed by the owner as is the case with normal hosting. This "upgrade or sod off" approach by support is unlikely to win any hearts & minds, let alone coinage IMHO.

Is this always the case? I've read of a few getting unsuspended, don't know how frequently/rarely this happens though.

If anybody has been unsuspended after this specific violation please make yourself known.

I've been reading through the google search results as the built in forum search here is behaving oddly and results are not encouraging at all.

From what I can piece together if a website hits the 20% CPU useage limit then it gets a five minute suspension that lifts automatically, no warning is issued to alert the webmaster a problem occured. So if you do not notice your site is offline then it has a little over three daysto live before it gets nuked by admin.

A little unfair perhaps as many folk after all do have a life away for from the keyboard plus a site under suspension is disabled and not hurting the server is it?

To confuse matters more there is no information on the time period that applies to the one thousand suspension events.
Update: July 15 -> support has clarified this it's 1000 per month

When your site usage is exceeding 20% CPU of the server processing power that was allowed, the automated script will suspend your site immediately.

This CPU limit is a standard on all hosting provider.

Yes, suspending sites that trip the CPU limit is common to all hosting providers. It is a common occurance for many websites under development or experiencing surges in demand and being unable to cope.

But why is it policy here that the site owner be denied FTP access to fix the problem and instead recieves a demand for money? Have never found any webhost free or paid behave this way except 000Webhost.

I think we all understand the reason for suspension. What I find hard to accept is the lack of warning, lack of a chance to save your files or fix problems and the fact that you have to pay to get your own files back.

In most civilized countries, when the crane takes your car, you have to pay to get your own car.

In even more civilised countries, people get a chance to know the rules where they can park their cars.

In addition to read and follow the rules of this forum, you should read the Terms of Service 000webhost (full page).

Could you point out the "20% CPU usage" part, please?
