if you have windows or other os installed before intalling kubuntu it will create grub automatically so you can choose your os at boot.

Yup, It took me a while get both Vista and Kubuntu to run smoothly. I had to restart many times. One of the problems was after booting to Kubuntu, restarting than booting to Vista... I could no longer boot to Kubuntu.

In terms of software, you can always try WINE and see if it can run the specific application or just merge over to GIMP.

Yes but I changed my mind I installed it manually in the end and it works perfectly.

I used to use ONLY ubuntu and I was fine. I now also use Vista because it a laptop and has a bigger screen and also a bigger HDD so I can keep more designed sites on it.
