I use ScitE to open index.php(index.php is the one I download from my newly created website(using template design), but it shows a lot of unrecognized character as below, but default.Php is ok, how to resolve this, I used both UTF 8 and GBK, still error

It may have something to do with encoding - either the file you're opening or the way you were logged into the server (using Binary or ASCII). Does the text remain garbled if you open it in Notepad or another plain text editor?

If so, try downloading it again - use the File Manager to ensure you get the file correctly. If it's still garbled I don't know what to suggest.

If you can read the file in a plain text editor, then contact ScitE for support with their software.
