Question MS_SQL Function - 07-24-2010, 11:52 AM

Hi Guys,

I have a db written in MS_Sql, which is hosted on a static IP on a different server. To connect to this db I can use the extended functions for mssql_connect(). However, these extensions appear to be disabled in the php.ini file on the free servers here, is this correct? And is there anyway to get them enabled?

Thanks for any help.

Jack

According to http://server46.000webhost.com/phpinfo.php, the sql packages installed are:

- MySQL
- MySQLi
- SQLite

So, indeed no MsSQL package. The problem is that they haven't just been disabled, they are not installed. This means that to make them available, 000webhost would have to change their whole php installation. Perhaps you can see why they aren't going to do that for users that aren't paying.

Indeed I can.

I had hoped they were installed and I could simply enable them somehow. Maybe with an .htaccess.

Now, to either rewrite the db or find a new host. I look forward to neither.

Thanks Jasper.

Usually - for anything hosted on a free webhost, as that's a place where complexity tends to be lower - rewriting the database is a pretty straight forward process, not even taking that much time. Unless you have a really complex database, it should not be too much of a problem.

Either way, I would recommend that over finding a new host, as MySQL is the industry standard, so there is little reason to run MSSQL on a free host.
