Default .htaccess problem (have searched for a solution but nothing worked) - 10-10-2011, 07:25 AM

So, I followed this tutorial to make html file: http://www.addedbytes.com/lab/passwo...with-htaccess/

I tried adding the baserewrite / thing and still takes me to the 404 page.
I also tried the Password Protect Directories in the Cpanel and not even that worked. :L

Would appreciate the help, thanks.

Quote:
rewritebase /
AuthUserFile /public_html/*******/*********/*****/.htpasswd
AuthName "Login"
AuthType Basic
require valid-user
Like I said before, not even the Cpanel one worked.

I'm not sure but all I can say is that the path is either wrong or something is wrong in .htpasswd. If the Cpanel one is not working also then it does seem that the error is with the 'create password' part.

My .htpasswd is set up correctly, has the user and the crypted pass. Does "/public_html/" need to be in the path?

I'd like to also point out, that when i do it through the Cpanel, the dir acts as if there is no files there, as in it takes me to that dir without needing the user/pass.

Edit: When I add "/home/accountnumber/public_html" at the start of the path in the .htacess, it takes me to the directory, buut no user/pass is needed.
