Lightbulb Manual Unzip Server Command??? - 11-28-2008, 11:43 AM

I have noticed that when trying to extract .zip files with the net2ftp file manager (The first "File Manager" In the cPanel, you can only upload, download, transfer and the biggest problem of all, Unzip the maximum of 5MB

Of corse it is possible to upload 5MB+ files to the server by using another FTP client like FireFTP and Smart FTP, but these will not allow you to unzip the contents of the .zip file on the server.

I have realized that it may be possible by using a custom server command of which I have tried to find the code in other forums but I have tried the commands and I get "Error 500 Unknown Command"

Im sure there is some sort of custom server command to unzip files on the server but what is it?? it is not "unzip".

Until then im having to extract them on my computer and kinda space the contents in to multiple smaller zip files and move them around the server

Thanks for all responces

I'm interested as well in that function. It takes a lot more time to send all the unzipped files by ftp instead of uploading a *.zip file and unzip it on the server.

It's not difficult to write a php program to do that, but I'm not sure if it is allowed here, and the size of file you can unzip is limited by how long a php program is allowed to run.

Most flavors of Unix do not include a command line program to unzip PKZIP compressed packages.

I dunno wats the story with that cuz i dont have it either. Best thing to do is unzip offline and upload file by file. I guess you can try the other way which is logging on to netftp home site and filling in your site details:

Server name: server--.000webhost.com
Username: a9--------
password: --------

You know what i mean, any way there is a slight snag with this type of uploading cuz netftp only allows 30 seconds of unzipping. SO if your zip is over a few megs then dont bother with this way
