Default A PHP guestbook that needs no database - 05-19-2009, 02:37 PM

Hello! ^_^V

I am new here but have found this piece of PHP to be very useful for beginners. I use a guestbook on my site but do not know anything about databases yet. I found a while ago "max's guestbook" and it serves my purpose well.

Max's guestbook is a Php - guestbook that needs no database to support it, just a folder it stores .txt files in. You can find it here, I hope you find it as useful as I did if you do not know databases yet! The php code is easy to modify to your name etc and it uses css for styling so you can match it to the rest of your site if you use css! ^_^

Good luck with your sites! ^_^b

Hey guys ^_^

Just a follow up. The guestbook was fine on my last host, but when I moved to here it stopped working. This is a very simple problem, you just need to change the persissions for the messages folder and guestbook-function php to 777 with chmod. This solves all problems and the book will run fine again!

Take care! ^_^b

This probably makes the move from host to host easier?
Anyway, you would probably change the txt extensions to something else, like html on this host, as txt files are disabled.

Personally I like guestbooks with database better tho, but I will test it out when I get home

does changing the extension actually work? Can't 000webhost find .txt files by serching the content. I suspect that this will work short term on 000webhost but they will catch on eventually...

I suggest just uploading a pre-made guestbook script, make a database in the hosting panel (hard work done for you) and just inputting the values you need -host, dbname, dbuser, dbpassword.

I can see the txt files okay, so I don't need to change anything? Seems to be working alright so far.

Cheers.

a flatfile .txt based guestbook? i used some like that in the past, but it required 666 and that doesn't seem to work here.

so if i change it to 777, all things should work again?

i have a question: i recently signed up in the forum, but most of the older posts i cant get acces too, cause i get redirected to the 000webhost startpage.

can anyone explain why i cant read the older posts? i needed some info about fopen, cause my simple script i found, uses also fwrite and if fwrite dont work....

then i wont be able to let the gladiatus guildmembers enter there score inside the table using the form.
