Default Free Domain and Hosting, no jokes - 12-31-2009, 12:04 AM

Heey guys,
this website I'm about to show isn't actually mine, but since I admire the idea of the developer so much I thought it would be worth sharing with you guys
This forum is ofcourse the site showcase so I thought it would be worth showing of this website.
The website I'm talking about is this one.
It's a website that actually isn't a scam and does provide you a real domain and real hosting for free. The catch only is that you need to fill in some survey's here 'n there in order to acces the hosting and domain. I really think this is worth your time and worth a try and therefor I share this with you guys.
So in case you want real hosting and domain names for free, visit http://www.freedomainandhosting.net/page/info!
Enjoy the day, so will I
Greetings,
Rien

Hm. This system is not really free now is it? You're required to sign up for a lot of offers which claim to be free but actually charge your phone, OR harvest your email, OR toss you into some pyramid scheme to win a prize...

Now, you can get a .com domain by only completing 2 'offers'. Now these offers that pay atleast 5 points ( needing 10 for a .com domain ) charge your cell phone 9.99 (USD) per month.... o.O So thats roughly 120 bucks a year for a .com domain... But since you need 10 points.. you'll have to sign up for another 5 point offer at 9.99... You could end up paying roughly 240 bucks a year if you don't pay attention and the charges to your cell phone bill go un-notice.

Or you can use a link like this ( http://www.freedomainandhosting.net/friendsurvey/sirmoo ) and trick your friends into signing up and spending 240 dollars a year for you. eitherway, it's not free at all. You're completing offers ( which cost ) for points.

Quote:
Q: What name will my domain/my hosting be registrated?
A: Your domain will be registrated first under our name and if you want to change this you can just contact us on the forums or with the contact form. Your hosting will be automaticly be registrated under your name.
They also pretty much own your domain unless you request otherwise... and really there is no forcing them to change it. They've registered it... you're just in agreement to use it based on points. You can of course transfer it away... but it will cost'ya.

Quote:
Q: I want to move my domain to my account on namecheap/godaddy/...
A: No problem! Just contact us and we will discuss how much the transfercosts will be!
All-in-all... this is really not worth it. :/ Just another one of those networks of tons of affiliate programs where they get money for spamming your inbox. You put in tons of work, hardly reap profit... And if you profit Profit they close down your account and keep your domain.

You're not really making sense at all.
If you would just have paid attention the least bit you would have noticed there are free survey's. You fill in a survey, takes the least bit of time, and you get your points along the way. If you send the friend-link you showed us to any of your friends, they will also be filling in survey's, survey's are FREE and DON'T cost you $240 a year... There are indeed 2 signups for the USA that are damn expensive, indeed kinda weird but there are other ways of making points as explained. There are more signups btw (outside the USA as well) that don't cost any money but just registration.
They own the domain unless you request to own it, so what's the deal? Just make your request...
You also noted something about having your domain stolen by the company etc.
Come on, be real, they're not just gonna kick you away and keep the domain if you actually worked your points for it... It's the worst advertising they can do and it'll kill their company. I suppose it's just there to prevent their company from hackers/cheaters etc.
All together I think you're just being far too negative without having real-based arguments so at least give these guys a chance...

I'm being logical and making perfect sense. You have no legal title to the domain. Their ToS has massive English grammatical errors and protects no-one. The "free" surveys that I did... required me to enter my phone number... And at the bottom it said it will be billed monthly for free ring tones and surveys, etc.

I'm also almost positive that you're apart of their little group since you're advertising and fighting it so much. The company makes more money off you doing advertisements like the surveys and affiliate codes then the actual domain costs.

There is nothing to say they won't kick you away. You made money, the registered the domain for you, they legally own the domain, you have no title to it. This is just basic legal argument.

You may get your domain from filling out surveys and spending money with them... But in the end it's easily compared to a scam because you really have no control over your domain. It being based on Texas Servers (Where I am )... It makes me want to send a request to the Houston company to investigate them for possible fraudulent activity.

To answer a couple of questions you make I can answer easily, their are currently 2 payed mobile surveys and a lot of free surveys. Because we are not from USA ourself we didn't notice this and after a couple of people complained about this we have added it to our news and FAQ that their are a couple of mobile surveys. It is still possible to get your domain for free.

The grammatical errors is because the crew isn't native English so we are trying our best to keep the errors out and everyone is always free to contact us about a small error and we will try to fix it as soon as possible.

We added to our ToS that we are allowed to close any account at any time because we wanted to have a safety net so our users that use our system without any cheating can not be harmed because any hacker/cheater that has found a small loop-hole in our system. Almost any website that offers a sort of service has the same line we do. If google wants to close your g-mail account they just can, if paypal wants to close your paypal account with 10.000$ on, they just can. They won't do it because they make more profit from being honest against their clients and we follow the same idea.

That we first put the domain under our name is because a lot of people are afraid of putting their personal details on the internet and a simple whois check will reveal them all. So we offer a sort of service that you won't need to pass us your personal information. If you want your domain under your name, you can just ask us and we will change it as soon as possible. We are not interested in claiming your domain for what ever reason.

That we request a small fee for transfering domains is normal, if you have an account on namecheap the transfer will be free (updated our FAQ) but if you want your domain to godaddy or any other service you will need to pay us a small fee because this will cost us a couple of dollars (transferfee).

That a mobile survey will cost you $120/year is only if you want it, as we described, offers like these need to offer a stop-code. The user can just send his stop-code after he received his points and won't need to pay anymore.

I hope I've helped you out a bit and if you want to correct a couple of errors, be free. We can only become better if someone tells us what's wrong.
