From what i understand, HP will not notify you, so you'll have to check for yourself, but it could mean a free battery, and save you from a possible fire.

Wow, thanks for this post man. I bought my grandmother an Compaq Laptop for her birthday, and she loves it, but I rather her not have it than her losing her house, maybe her life.

Thanks again, and I've never even heard of a laptop battery on recall. I'll call them tonight and get a new battery for her, but until then I'll tell her not to use it.

Lol, I have a compaq 6720s, one of the models listed, but luckily my battery was not affected ! What happened was the battery starts to overheat, which can then cause a burn or even a fire ! Yooopppeee !
