Default Help! Cannot launch wordpress install.php - 04-21-2012, 01:53 AM

Hi everyone. I cant seem to get my Wordpress install.php file to launch. I loaded the files individually using Filezilla to my root directory after I configured the wp-config.php file and then tried to open the install.php file in a new chrome browser window but it refuses to open. I get a 404 error. I've searched the forum and haven't found any satisfactory answers. I don't know about any template problems as yet because I cant even get the file/site to open. I'm totally new to website building so please keep this in mind when offering advise. Thanks!

Good to see directly the error you're getting. You can give the address of your website.

Note that the files you upload must be stored in the public_html folder (or any subfolder within public_html).

There's no need to configure the wp-config.php file before uploading, just upload all of WP, go to your site and follow the installation instructions. You don't even have to go to install.php, just www.example.com

Thanks for the response! I found on another forum where I should install to the public_html directory instead of the root...corrected that and within about 5 minutes I was able to launch the install.php file. I do have some other questions though. Do I need to create another thread or can I ask them here and now?
