Question Novice needs help with iWeb upload - 05-03-2012, 05:40 PM

Hello,

I am getting kind of frustrated right now it's been awhile now since I started to build my own website task, so far it's been a pleasure for the most part until I go to upload.

Not finished with the website but I want to make sure it works before I finish.

What I'm using for FTP: Filezilla
Web tool: Latest Version of iWeb from Apple/Mac
Hosting: 000webhost.com
My site: http://srlmt.hostzi.com/

There's my problem:
First problem is I had an error T-string but now I have fixed by doing these steps: using text editor (text only) type in "php_value short_open_tag off" (minus the ") save as .htaccess.
Drag & dropped .htaccess into public_html now I am able to view the page...

However, when i look up my site http://srlmt.hostzi.com it shows a white page saying "Index" then a hyper link to the main file that holds all of subdirectories (i think that's what it's called). I click on the hyperlink and it shows only the welcome page why is that? It doesn't display the menu at the top of the page for other pages why? Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong and how to correct this to view the entire website?

Please help!

I appreciate your assistance in advance.

See THIS ARTICLE in the FAQ regarding this. Common issue with iWeb and this shows you how to deal with it properly here.

It looks like you have uploaded your files inside a folder named "SRLMT". If you move the contents down into the "public_html" folder they will appear where they are supposed to.

Once you get that done, post back and I'll see if I can help with the menus issue. I've got a pretty good idea of what it is, but we need to get your files placed properly first.

Good luck!!

Yes the entire website/folder was saved as SRLMT which is located in the public_html already.

OK, in order for your files to display properly in your domain, you must place the contents of "SRLMT" into the "public_html" folder. NOT the folder itself.

Inside of "public_html" you should have your pages and files, not the folder. They will then show up under your domain.

Hope that helps!!
Cheers and good luck!!

Hi Nevermore93,

I have taken the contents out of SRLMT folder now it doesn't show the white screen and "Index" with hyperlink to welcome page; it goes directly to welcome page. That good news but no other menus are coming up and other files are not displayed.

I have take a screenshot in this link:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1...75JgNDQc4/edit. Take a look at it tell me if I'm supposed to take the content out of the other files, i.e. "About Me", "Contact", etc. files uploaded.

Well, that is progress!!!

The next thing to look into is a folder called "Scripts" in your files. The pages are looking for some additional files (javascript etc) in that folder, but it doesn't seem to exist in your server directory.

My guess is that probably has something to do with your missing items and menus. When you find it, just upload the folder (with contents) to your "public_html" directory and see what happens. We'll take it from there.

Cheers!

Might want to edit that and remove the email address so you don't get spammed. I copied it down already.

If I have time later, I might be able to contact you directly. I actually do this kind of thing for a living, and just help out here when I can as thanks for the free hosting.

Gotta make sure the boss is happy first.

Cheers.
