Default Where to put CSS? - 07-04-2012, 01:00 AM

I am upgrading my HTML skills and have developed a site on my PC which uses CSS (placed in CSS folder at root) and works fine .... but when uploaded to my new 000webhost site the CSS is not working. The CSS folder is in the pblic_html folder. The HTML works but is not styled. Images are also in the "images" folder in the public_html folder and are accessed. Should the CSS folder be "alongside" the public_html folder rather than in it .... or is it something else?

Hello,

You can check two things:

1. You are using the path right from the file you are calling your CSS file.

2. When you put your CSS file name, notes that the server is case sensitive and the server distinguishes between uppercase and lowercase. Also to name the file it is advisable to avoid using characters outside of ASCII-7bit. Avoid using letters such as á, é, í, ä, space, etc..

Finally you can give a link to the website that you are getting problems so that we can find the error.

Thanks - it probably is syntax/path ... but where??
The website is at www.whiggysaand.site11.com and I would really appreciate any expert views on what the error is. At local level it made a big difference putting in ../ when calling an image file (in the image folder) from a CSS file (in the CSS folder) - I think I need to revoke some of my old DOS skills. I am new to CSS since I haven't upgraded my HTML skills in over 10 years ... trying to fix that now. PHP next ....

PS: It all works just fine on my PC under localhost (or just opening the index.htm file in Firefox or Chrome) - and it also works fine on an Adobe remote test site - so it seems that this 000Webhost site is the one that is different.

Your folder is called CSS, your code to the folder is css, as d3iti says "the server is case sensitive and the server distinguishes between uppercase and lowercase."
Rename your folder css

Thanks, ShocK - that works - such a simple solution.
