Unhappy Using HTML / CSS Templates on my site? - 07-24-2012, 11:00 PM

Hello there, I am well aware that there is another topic for this, but it is not giving enough detail, therefore I am going to need to create a new post.

First off, let me tell you, I AM familiar with HTML and CSS website coding, as well as template creating. Now, I am not familiar with the 000webhost.com platform, and don't know how to use templates such as those that are available for download from www.freecsstemplates.org.

So, on the other, similar topic, they suggested uploading the files to the file manager, but there is just one problem. Which file manager, and do you upload the entire unzipped file with the template contents or what?

I need a very detailed, instruction, in order to understand how to do this. If you know how to do this, please post a reply. THANKS, and your help is greatly appreciated (in advanced).

Hi Sadulski - u can either decompress the download(s) on ur hard drive and then copy the folders over to ur site using filezilla or use the file manager with the blue pic (net2ftp). If u go this route once u click on the file manager and are on the landing page click on upload (3rd button on top from left to right). On the right you'll see the option for uploading zip files. Browse for ur template and once it's queued click on the green check arrow that's towards the left side of the app. They'll be decompressed to the server.

Alright, thanks for the help. But wait... ummm... do I have to unzip the files and upload the entire template folder, or just the contents of the folder?

Thanks again!

If you're using filezilla unzip the folder and once u see all the content copy all the folders and files at that level. You don't need to open each folder to copy each file individually. If you're using the blue file manager once u see the zipped file listed and click on the green arrow, the zip file will be opened automatically and all the folders and files are copied over. After a few seconds you'll see the list of all the copied files on the left side of the file manager.

If you upload a folder with your website inside it, when you go to your URL, this is what you will see -

If you upload the contents of the folder (above), but the index.html (or .php) has a capital letter in it, this is what you see -

Renaming Index to index means that when you go to your URL then you go straight to your website. (I've done this so everyone can see the contents of the folder that should be uploaded, not the folder itself)

Most people tend to use an ftp client rather than the file manager, it's far easier to see what you're doing and is very simple to use.

Alright, I got the template I want working, but now ... how do I go ahead and edit the site? It won't let me use (the first sitebuilder)... so, how do I edit the site?
