Default Basic Setup Help - 08-04-2012, 12:06 AM

im a noob, i just started, and im wondering how i can skip the part of the webpage where it shows an index and i can have it redirect the viewer to a file on the webpage of my choice.
if anyone knows how this is done, please help me out here.

Say the file that's your webpage in that list is called mypage.html, then rename that file to index.html

that didnt work, now it just has a list of files and one is called index.html
the file is in my public.html, is that the problem?

Have you renamed it with a capital letter anywhere? It has to be in lowercase. All files and folders must be inside public_html folder.

Not sure how you managed this. The "do not upload here" is supposed to be outside of public_html folder. In file manager have you still got a public_html folder? Or have you somehow deleted it? If I was you I'd use cleanup/reload account in cpanel and re upload those few files making sure they are inside public_html (not next to it)

it works! thanks, i figured out there was conflicting code in the .htaccess file.

[1 hour later]

one extra thing. if you go to my webpage and click on one of the links: <html>, <head>, ect, and then scroll down and click on back to lesson one, it goes to www.000webhost.com, not back. any idea why?

The link url must be wrong, it only goes where you tell it to go and if it's wrong or there's no url then it goes to 000webhosts error page. You need to check your links.
Server is case sensitive too.
