Default htaccess issues with two domains - 11-25-2010, 01:32 PM

I have two domains a .co.uk and a .com I have a dirictory on .co.uk is password protected via cPanel but if you go on the front page of the .com and click thru the links I get the htaccess password popup from the .co.uk domain on the .com domain! Is this a problem with using htaccess on a shared server?

Any ideas?

Can you tell us what the two domains are?

The domains are stormsure.co.uk and stormsure.com but because the sites are "live" I have had to remove the .htaccess from the .co.uk directory to make the links on the .com work.

This confirms it is a htaccess problem but is by no means a solution.

It seems you have two different accounts that are on totally different servers, are you uploading the .htaccess file to the wrong site?

The two accounts should still not have any effects on one another, maybe I'm not understanding you correctly. When you enable password protection on one account it shows up on the other?

basically yeah. The two accounts should be separate and individual but no, the password protection "leaches" over...

That honestly should not be possible, as the accounts are literally on two different servers. Nonetheless I suggest you use http://www.javascriptkit.com/howto/htaccess3.shtml

Honestly you would think that it is impossible, like myself. However I assure you that it is happening.

Have you tried manually adding the password protect to the .htaccess file? Or have you been using the control panel option the whole time?
