Using ImprovMX with 000webhost

Free email forwarding from ImprovMX has proved to be more reliable than the free forwarding which exists for users who have linked their domains before the updates.

This tutorial will allow existing users with domains parked to link free email forwarding from ImprovMX.

First head over to https://improvmx.com and signup which only takes a few seconds.

Once registered you’ll be able to create custom forwarders for instance if Dave wanted his email dave@yourdomain.com to go to dave@gmail.com then you can do that.
You get a catch all by default - what this means is any forwarders which aren’t setup i.e. mumbo-jumbo@yourdomain.com will still be redirected to a catch all inbox if you have picked it in the top of the list.
This is great if someone mis-spelt an address intended for your domain and you needed important documents, they’d still be received by the catch-all email address.

You need to login to 000webhost.com > Set Web Address > Manage your parked domain > MX record

Remove existing values like Zoho below and enter only the mx1.improvmx.com value.

If you get errors about forwarders still being active, ensure you delete all the forwarders from the 000webhost panel, then you can set a custom MX record for existing parked domain users.

If you have pointed your domain previously then that means your MX record is managed at your domain registrar or DNS management website like CloudFlare.

Login to CloudFlare for example, hit DNS, then remove any existing MX records, add the two new records as provided by ImprovMX.

The same for any domain registrar, visit the DNS records section on their panel, remove existing MX records and enter the ImprovMX ones.

You might be worth checking your domain registrar panel for free email forwarding to save you signing up to ImprovMX.

REMOVE EXISTING MX RECORDS if you are setting up at the domain registrar.
For example these three records NEED removed, then add in the two values provided by ImprovMX.

REMOVE EXISTING MX RECORDS if you are setting up at CloudFlare
For example all MX records NEED removed, then add in the two values provided by ImprovMX.
