How to install OctoberCMS on 000webhost

October is a free, open-source, self-hosted CMS platform based on the Laravel PHP Framework. A simple and modular CMS that grows with you, with a precise and beautiful interface that comes as second nature.

https://octobercms.com/

Time required: 5 minutes or under!
Tools required: 000webhost free account, one database, able to download/upload .zip files, one cup of coffee!

Firstly head over to 000webhost.com and login or register a new account if you have not already.
Now manage your existing website or create a new one!

Head over to the October CMS website and download the latest version of their script.

Upload the ZIP file into public_html folder

Once uploaded you’ll want to extract and move all the files into public_html if that is where you intend to run it from. i.e. all bare files into public_html

Now time to hit up the setup, load your site.000webhostapp dot com and it should appear like so.

Bottom right hit the little agree button

Now head back onto 000webhost .com and load up Manage Database, we need one created for the script
On the left hit TOOLS then Database Manager

You’ll see the new database button as below

Choose some secure password for your database and copy it ready for the install

Please WAIT until the database has finished creating before finishing your setup

Now the database is installed you’ll see this lovely page, fill in the details from what you just created a moment ago.

Hit the admistrator button to pick your login details

Hit the advanced button if you want to change any key/the backend URL

Choose a method you’d like to use to setup your site, I went for theme middle option

Choose any theme to get started!

Once you’ve picked your theme - hit install then confirm!

It should only take a few seconds for your installation to progress

DUN DUN DUN - you MAY or may not encounter this error (don’t worry easily fixed)

Head over to public_html then config folder and open up database.php file

You’ll see a similar piece of code to below

You need to paste the code below into a new line after the prefix line

            'options' => [PDO::ATTR_EMULATE_PREPARES => true, PDO::MYSQL_ATTR_COMPRESS => true,]

Once you’ve pasted the code above onto a new line below prefix in the database.php file, save and exit.

Head back to the installer and hit RETRY!

Tada! Finished!
Simple!

Ensure to delete install_files folder + install.php NOW!!!

Head to your backend to start making the best of your website!
